Course attributes are markers that indicate a course can apply toward a requirement, either for the degree or toward a major, program, certificate or concentration. Attributes are used by degree audit to scribe for major requirements. Attributes are used by students to search in Yale Course Search for courses that fulfill requirements. See also Searching with Course Attributes.
They are created and managed by the University Registrar’s Office in collaboration with academic departments and certificate directors. Department DUSs and certificate directors determine what type of attributes they need to assign to their courses based on content, methodology, and relevance to degree requirements.
Faculty and department administrators can assign attributes through the Course Inventory Management (CIM) system when:
- Creating new courses
- Updating existing courses
- Recognizing courses from other departments as fulfilling requirements
