DUS RESPONSIBILITES
It expected that the DUS, in conversation with the Chair of the department, is responsible for overseeing the curriculum of the undergraduate program to ensure academic quality, coherence, and compliance with university standards. This includes reviewing and updating course offerings, coordinating with faculty to plan the schedule, introducing new courses as needed, and retiring outdated ones. Additionally, the DUS serves as a key adviser to students, guiding them in course selection and completion of major requirements.
Course Management
- Work with faculty to create new courses in CIM.
- Carefully review and approve new and revised course proposals on the CourseLeaf approval page.
- Determine the schedule of class offerings and provide this information in a timely manner to department administrators/registrars so they can offer courses each term in WEN.
- Review course offerings in Yale Course Search before the opening of registration.
Major Requirements Management
- Review and edit, as needed, the program overview in Yale College Programs of Study during the yearly editing cycle (November - March).
- Work with the Degree Audit team to ensure the major requirements appear correctly in student Degree Audit records.
- If the department is considering changes to the major, alert the Secretary to the Committee on Majors. Plan to submit all proposed changes to the committee by the of the fall term.
- Review the departmental website to ensure that mention of major requirements on the website match those as written in YCPS.
- Consider developing a visual roadmap of the major.
DGS RESPONSIBILITES
Course Management

DEPARTMENTAL ADMIN/REGISTRAR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the DUS/DGS to develop a plan for new courses and help new faculty members with the course proposal process.
- Monitor workflow for new and revised courses to ensure they are available for offering.
- Work with faculty to offer courses each term in WEN.
- Review the faculty roster that appears in YCPS and GSAS P&P(Link is external) (Link opens in new window) for yearly updates.
- Create Individual Study Courses(Link opens in new window) for students in the Graduate School
