Yale College: Degree Options

Yale College B.A. & B. S. Degree Options

Yale College offers over 80 majors, and several offer both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree. The requirements for the B.A. and B.S. degrees in a major that offers both are typically quite different and should be carefully considered as students map out their plan of study. See Major Roadmaps for a visual guide to many majors.

Yale College also offers students the opportunity to graduate with two majors; however, students must petition the Committee on Honors and Academic Standing for permission to complete the requirements of two major programs. See Two Majors in Yale College Programs of Study.

Students may declare either a B.A. or B.S. degree in both of the above situations. The University Registrar’s Office typically asks sudents to select their degree choice in Yale Hub near the end of their final term of enrollment.

  • If your major offers a B.A. and a B.S. degree and you have fulfilled the appropriate requirements, you should indicate which degree you have earned and want represented on your diploma in Yale Hub.
  • If you have completed two majors and one or both of your majors offers both a B.A. and a B.S. degree, you may choose which curriculum to follow. Please keep in mind that if you choose to pursue opposite degree curricula for your majors (B.A. in one major, B.S. in the other), you must choose which degree to receive at graduation.

You can always check the degree you are scheduled to receive by logging in to Yale Hub and viewing your Academic Program in the Term Data Info section. Keep in mind that switching your degree may change the curriculum requirements for that major, so you should consult with your director of undergraduate studies (DUS) before changing your major or your degree.

Close to the end of your final term of enrollment, you will be reminded to check that Yale Hub correctly reflects the degree you wish to receive. If it does, no further action is required; however, you may need to contact the Records team at the Registrar’s Office if the wrong information is listed close to your conferral date.
