As Election Day, November 7, 2023, approaches, if you haven’t already, you are encouraged to register to vote.
Federal law mandates that all colleges and universities in the country make voter registration pathways and resources available to all students attending their institutions who are eligible to vote. Democratic participation and the ability to vote in national, state, and local elections is both a privilege and a civic duty. The Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life has institutionalized student voter registration at Yale through Yale Votes and it is your best resource for information regarding the voting process. Yale has partnered with TurboVote to increase voter registration and participation across all schools. Yale Votes and TurboVote are non-partisan and provide online applications designed to help people register to vote. Students who elect to use Yale TurboVote receive assistance with voter registration through a step-by-step process that differs depending on how and where they want to vote.
You may register to vote in Connecticut or your home state through Yale TurboVote. If you elect to use a mail-in ballot to vote in your home state while at Yale and live on campus, or live on campus and are voting in person in Connecticut, please use the office address of your affiliated residential college as your mailing address. When the TurboVote form prompts you to “print and mail yourself” or “have TurboVote do this for you,” select the latter. TurboVote will send the completed forms to you for your signature along with a preaddressed return envelope and pre-paid postage.
If you need to check your registration status, change your address, or want to opt into receiving election reminders, please do so through Yale TurboVote.
The deadline to register to vote in person in the state of Connecticut online is 11:59 p.m. on October 28. You can also submit a registration form by mail, but it must be postmarked by October 31. Or you may register in person up to the day of the election at the Office of the Registrar of Voters, 200 Orange St., New Haven, CT 06510-2696, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
